Representatives of the Danish gambling committee Spillemyndigheden have confirmed that an increased revenue resulting from online casinos has had a positive effect on boosting the country’s gaming industry in the first quarter.

Online casinos brought in a revenue summing up to DDK310 million, which converts to €41.6 million or $45.8 million. This represents clear progress from last year’s revenue during the same period: DDK225.

Although last year was pretty rough for the online poker segment because of a drop in revenue to DDK45 million, reports did mention a significant rise in profit for the betting market, from DDK415 million in the first quarter to DDK440 million this year.

This year the combined revenue from betting and the online casino market rose up to DDK750 million, compared to the DDK670 million from last year.

According to reports, land-based casino revenue, compared to the same period from last year, stagnated, registering a DDK75 million. In the fourth quarter of 2014, when the revenue amounted to DDK85, there was a definite drop.
